This quote is on school boards -- and this is both a "yes" and "no".

"Yes". As someone who ran for (county) school board it fascinated me how often my experience, in actual classrooms, was negated and sidestepped as irrelevant or not pertinent to the role itself. While I understand I hadn't taught in the school districts I was running in, and I understand there are differences across school districts, it nevertheless amazed me how often the terms I used, the latest research and methodologies I referenced, and the realworld experience I had for the position was actually used against me . . .

"No". For obvious reasons--conflict of interest--school board members cannot work in the district they represent/seek to represent. They must live in the district they represent, but from every school board and policy/rule I know, they cannot work in the district/school board they sit on. And since school board positions are often part-time and pay meagerly, we end up with so many on school boards that are launching their political careers, are outside of education, are retired, so on and so forth. So, we don't necessarily deem teachers unqualified, the rules and compensation just happen to disqualify and deter most teachers . . .
